The 13th China Pingyao International Photography Festival 2013 (Macao Pavilion)

Message

The China Pingyao International Photography Festival has been held over the last decade since 2001. Every year, a large number of photographers and enthusiasts from all over the world visit the exhibition, which has become the most influential international photography exhibition in contemporary China.

In order to promote the development of Macao photography and display its artistic works via this international art platform, the Macao Museum of Art, under the Civic and Municipal Affairs Bureau (IACM), is participating in the 13th China Pingyao International Photography Festival and set up a Macao pavilion.

The Macao pavilion has adopted ‘Macao Life in Photography’ as its theme in line with the theme of this event, displaying works of four Macao photographers. These four participants include experienced photographers Wong Ho Sang and Chan Hin Io as well as young photographers Wong Chon Kit and Ieong Man Pan. They present the lives of Macao people and Macao landscapes from various perspectives.

The Macao Museum of Art is the largest art gallery in Macao. Since its establishment in 1999, the Museum has worked with many major cultural organisations, museums, famous artists and collectors, at home and abroad, to organise countless large art exhibitions which have been acclaimed all over the world - from ancient artistic treasures to modern, contemporary creations.

As the largest museum of its kind in Macao, the Macao Museum of Art also pays close attention to the marshalling and display of works by local artists. This exhibition seeks to introduce local artists to people in Mainland China and international exhibition-goers; in the meantime, the Museum also takes this opportunity to enhance the exchange and interaction of local artists and international photography circles, and to broaden the horizons of Macao artists.

Through this exhibition, I believe each visitor may glean a deeper understanding of this city, Macao, whilst taking a close look at the creations of artistic photographers in contemporary Macao.
