The exhibition, Ties to the Tibetan Heart: Celebrating the 60th Anniversary of the Establishment of the Tibet Autonomous Region – An Exhibition of Lok Cheong's Works in Tibet, grandly opened at the Tibet Art Museum. This remarkable exhibition featured one hundred pieces, highlighting three decades of artistic connection between Macao and Tibet. Most exhibits hail from the collection of the Macao Museum of Art, complemented by treasures from Macao artist Lok Cheong’s family and the Tibet Art Museum. Together, they present significant works by the artist spanning over half a century, along with over 70 sketches, documents, and photographs, providing invaluable historical context. The exhibition is organised into three themes: ‘Love for the Motherland’, ‘Capturing the Character of Macao’, and ‘Portraits’, systematically tracing Lok’s artistic development.

Professor Jao Tsung-I advocated a concurrent pursuit in the spheres of academics and arts, suggesting that academic research and artistic creation should be mutually complementary. In addition to the techniques he learned from predecessors, his academic knowledge and observation of natural scenery also play an essential role in his artistic creation. Professor Jao was adept at both calligraphy and painting. He was skilful in the four fundamental scripts of traditional Chinese calligraphy and in drawing on a wide range of subject matters, including landscapes, flower, tree, bamboo, stone, Taoist and Buddhist figures. This exhibition will showcase works selected from the collection of the Macao Museum of Art, thereby enabling visitors to appreciate his profound erudition and diverse creations.
