Introduction
The “11th Macau Design Biennial” is organised by the Cultural Affairs Bureau of the Macao SAR Government, the Macao Museum of Art and the Macau Designers Association. With the 4,575 sets of work submitted by contestants from 33 countries and regions, namely Mainland China, Hong Kong, Macao, Taiwan, Japan, England, Germany and Netherlands, the number of entries has reached a record high. The overall quality of the entries has improved comparing to previous years.
The current Biennial adheres to the aims of its past editions by identifying outstanding design talents of Macao and worldwide. It strives to widen the horizon of the local design sector and take Macao’s design to the international level through the platform of cultural exchange it created.
The jury panel is composed of invited prominent figures in the design world, namely Céline Lamée, representative of LAVA, a well-known Amsterdam-based design agency, Steffen Knöll, a contemporary designer from Germany, and Guang Yu, a famous graphic designer of China. They selected 182 award-winning works among the pool of entries, covering a variety of categories under the Public Group and Student Group, like Corporate Identity Design, Visual Communication Design, Publication Design, Poster Design, Illustration and Digital Media Design. The different awards, like Gold, Silver, Bronze and Distinctive Awards of different categories, Distintion Gold Award, Polytrade Paper Printing Award, Tourism Souvenirs Design Award and Macau Design Award of Best Branding, amounted to 190 in total.
