LAO KWAI PENG(1952 – )
La o Kwa i Peng, o ri g i n a l l y from Foshan, Guangdong, is the second son of renowned Chinese potter y master Liu Chuan. Growing up surrounded by pottery, he developed a solid foundation in pottery art that would shape his career.
In 1979, Lao moved to Macao, where he dedicated over thirty years to pottery art education, mentoring countless talents who have since made their mark in the field. His artistic career has been remarkably successful, with solo exhibitions across Macao, Hong Kong, Singapore, and Portugal.
In 1998, Lao unveiled one of his most notable works, the large outdoor sculpture, ‘Forever Handsha ke ’, wh i c h was a commemoration to Macao’s return to China. Its distinctive design and profound symbolism have made it one of Macao’s most iconic sculptures. In 2000, he produced ‘Taking the First Place’, a lively figurine that showcases the traditional Shiwan style and highlights his exquisite craftsmanship.

Beyond his contributions to ceramic art, he has played an active role in preserving and conserving Macao’s cultural heritage, including overseeing the restoration of the plaster ornaments in Lou Kau Mansion. These combined efforts have left a lasting impact on Macao’s artistic landscape.
