LIU XUELING(1965 – )
Liu Xueling, born in 1965 in Shiwan, Guangdong Province, holds the titles of ‘Master of Guangdong Ar ts and Crafts’ and ‘Senior Art and Craftsman’. The fifth-generation heir to the Liu Shengji family, renowned for its Shiwan pottery artistry, she was influenced from a very early age by her father, Liu Bing – a ‘Master of Chinese Arts and Crafts’ – and other Shiwan senior artists. Beginning her career in pottery in 1981, she later studied at Nanhai Normal School and the South China Normal University, integrating art theory with family tradition. Over the years, she has visited iconic artistic centres such as Beijing and Dunhuang to inspire her creativity and enhance her mastery in pottery art.
Liu Xueling excels at depicting novice monks, Bodhidharma, Arhats, and ancient figures. Her thematically innovative and creative works are marked by precision and simplici ty, with natural, flowing garment tex tures and del i cate, vivid facial depictions. They render a peaceful, profound, interesting, and aesthet i c a l l y ent i c ing realm. A recipient of numerous provincial and municipal awards, Liu blends the Shiwan tradition with Chinese and Western artistic concepts, fostering creativity while honouring its heritage.
