In order to promote contemporary art of Macao to international audiences, the Macao Museum of Art, under the auspices of the Cultural Affairs Bureau, is now calling for submission of exhibition proposals for the “60th International Art Exhibition of La Biennale de Venezia – Collateral Event from Macao, China” from today until 28 July, 2023. All interested teams are welcome to submit proposals and the outstanding proposal will have the opportunity to be featured in the international art exhibition in Venice, Italy in April 2024 together with other exceptional works from around the globe.
Background and Objective
Launched in 1895, the International Art Exhibition of La Biennale di Venezia is the oldest art biennale in the world. As one of the largest events for international contemporary art, it is hailed as one of the three major world art exhibitions, together with the São Paulo Art Biennial, and Documenta in Kassel.
Since 2007, the Macao Museum of Art (MAM) has attended, under the name of ‘Macao, China’, eight editions of the International Art Exhibition of La Biennale di Venezia. The objective is to encourage Macao's artistic and creative talents to actively promote Macao contemporary art onto international stage, showcasing to a world audience the current status of Macao art. In 2024, the Macao Museum of Art (MAM) under the Cultural Affairs Bureau of the Macao SAR Government will once again organize a team to participate in the 60th International Art Exhibition, and is now launching an open call for submission of Exhibition Proposals.
The 60th International Art Exhibition of La Biennale di Venezia will be held in April 2024, and curated by Adriano Pedrosa. The Macao Museum of Art hopes that the participating teams can promote and facilitate modern art creation in Macao by making use of this important international contemporary art exchange platform.
