Chinese Flower Arrangement Workshops

Members' Activities in the Theme of the Yun Shouping Exhibition for Friends of MAM

2023/10/28 - 2023/10/28

Qing painter Yun Shouping (1633—1690) claimed to be ‘Nantian, the man who grows and waters flowers’ in an inscription of a painting. He sought nature as his mentor and championed that ‘extreme splendour is part of nature’. He focused on realistic depiction and elevated the ‘boneless’ flower painting techniques to a higher level. His flowers are vivid, refreshing and natural. To celebrate Yun Shouping: Paintings and Calligraphy from the Palace Museum and the Shanghai Museum, the MAM presents a series of exclusive flower-themed activities for the Friends of MAM.

Chinese Flower Arrangement Workshops

Professional floral artists will introduce Chinese floral art history and guide members in mastering the visual effects of flower arrangement and harmonising flowers and branches. Participants will better understand the imagery and aesthetics of Chinese bird-and-flower paintings, while also experiencing the spirit of Chinese floral art. They can also take their work back home as a souvenir. The activities are free.

Instructor

Howard Pang. Macau Academy of Flower Arrangement Designer director Howard Pang is a senior florist in China. The local professional floral artist is a member of the World Flower Council (Macau) Chapter and has won numerous floral art awards. Since 2015, he has been actively engaged in teaching and demonstration.
