Golden Eminence: Handmade Incense Workshop

Activities of the Golden Eminence Exhibition for Friends of MAM

2024/03/16 - 2024/03/16
Art Square (Ground floor of Handover Gifts Museum of Macao)

The Tashi Lhunpo Monastery is one of the four most famous monasteries of the Gelug lineage of Tibetan Buddhism, where the ancient traditional method of handcrafted incense is still practiced today. Tibetan incense contains Tibetan medicinal ingredients, symbolising good wishes and purifying both the body and mind. In line with the theme of Golden Eminence: Treasures from the Palace Museum and the Tashi Lhunpo Monastery, the Macao Museum of Art (MAM) will hold ‘Golden Eminence: Handmade Incense Workshop’ for Friends of MAM. During the workshop, a incense maker will introduce the culture, ingredients, effects and medicinal value of Tibetan incense, as well as basic knowledge about the method of making handcrafted incense. Through hands-on experience, participants will be able to enjoy the process and pleasure of making incense sticks and gain a better understanding of the beauty of the traditional Tibetan incense culture. After the workshop, participants will be able to take the incense sticks they create back home. Participation in the workshop is complimentary for Friends of MAM.
