Palace Of Double Brilliance – Seal Engraving Workshop

Exclusive Workshop for Friends of MAM

2025/02/15 - 2025/02/15
Art Square(Ground Floor, Handover Gifts Museum of Macao)

To celebrate the Palace of Double Brilliance: Special Exhibition from the Palace Museum, the Macao Museum of Art is holding outreach events. These events, focusing on seal carving and engraving artefacts, aim to inspire the audience to appreciate and understand Emperor Qianlong’s seals and paintings from different perspectives. Our expert explanations, demonstrations, and hands-on workshops will enhance the audience's cultivation of traditional Chinese culture and art.

This workshop aims to introduce Emperor Qianlong’s seals and traditional seal carving art in an accessible manner. Participants will learn to use engraving techniques to create stamps and artwork. They will experience the joy of creativity, using a knife as a brush and stone as a base, breathing new life into ordinary stones, and stamping their uniquely crafted calligraphy works with their personal seals.

[Instructor]
Ho Weng Chi, an outstanding young seal carving artist from Macao, is a doctoral student in Fine Arts at the China Academy of Art, specializing in the creative and theoretical study of Chinese calligraphy and seal carving. She holds a Master’s degree in Fine Arts from the same institution, with a focus on theoretical research and the creation of calligraphy and seal carving. Since 2016, Ho has been teaching seal carving art. In 2023, she was appointed as a visiting lecturer at the Faculty of Arts and Design at the Macao Polytechnic University, where she imparts her extensive knowledge in subjects such as calligraphy, seal carving, Chinese folk and ethnic art, and Eastern art studies. She has extensive experience in both creation and teaching.
