Echo the wind wanderer

Artist’s statement

Ekokaxi Wang

‘Nature offers all the answers,’ said my mother.
My name is Ekokaxi. I am an artist and a PhD research student. As a child, my family and I would go out to observe the trees, marvel at the leaves, and uncover the hidden secrets of plants. The soft magnolia buds and the mysterious, watchful patterns on birch bark made nature feel like a lifelong friend, brimming with stories. The sense of wonder I found there gradually blossomed in my creative work. In high school, I began making art that invited people to play, to touch, and to step inside the experience. Later, as I delved into psychology and neuroscience, I started to see the body, touch, memory, and emotion in a new light, and realised how deeply they are woven into art.

My creative process often stems from intuition and unfolds as a series of game experiments. I explore the softness and firmness of materials, their warmth or coolness, and the textures that invite touch. My memories and life experiences become shapes and hidden hints within each piece. At the same time, my academic research acts as a prism that reveals new facets of myself and illuminates the reasons at the heart of my art. Through this journey, I have built a safe environment – a world for endless play.

Here in Macao, I have created three portals into ‘parallel worlds’. In each, I have completed only half the journey; the rest awaits your discovery, your touch, and your feelings. I hope to pass on the courage I have found through creation. This is an invitation for your inner child to step into worlds free from rules or shame, where you are truly welcome to explore.
