Aquarium Adventures
One evening, Echo dozed off,
and slowly, she began to sink.
She sank into a pink sea.
Within the sea, she found a hole,
soft, like the inside of a seed,
and also like the embrace of her mother when she was a child.
Inside the hole, strange creatures drifted.
One was soft and fluffy – it was her fear.
One was transparent – it was her loneliness.
One was glowing – it was her happiness.
And there was one more, hiding in the distance.
She could not figure it out,
only that it seemed to resemble her,
but just a little larger than she was.
Echo reached out to touch each one in turn.
When she touched her fear, it shrank.
When she touched loneliness, it glimmered with a faint light.
When she touched happiness, it swirled around her.
The one that hid never drew nearer,
and never slipped away;
it simply watched her,
as if it was waiting.
Suddenly, Echo touched a glowing seed.
In that instant,
she and the one that was hiding
finally saw each other.
Then together, they slipped back into darkness.
A wind blew in from the opening of the hole,
lifting Echo upward,
carrying her all the way home.
